Varna

According to Russel and Hiralal, when Parshuram the sixth incarnation of Vishnu was destroying the Kshatriya clan, two brothers hid themselves in a temple and were protected by the priest. The priest ordered one brother, Chippi, to sew a dress for an idol and other to stamp and dye it. Chippi the name was later corrupted as Shimpi. Therefore, their varna is believed to be Kshatriya.
