Melody Selvon was born on Mauritius Island on September 17, 1989. She did a good part of her primary schooling in Australia, where she stayed nearly five years with her family. Her family then migrated to Canada where she graduated from the Glenmary Catholic School in the Province of Alberta. While preparing to attend university, she went back to Mauritius to take part in the national beauty pageant as the youngest of all contestants and was crowned Miss Mauritius just before her 17th birthday. In 2007, she was a participant in the Miss World 2007 contest in Sanya, in the province of Hainan, China, where her parents were residents as Foreign Experts. Melody Selvon has widely travelled since her early childhood, having been also to France, the UK, the Bahamas and Singapore in addition to living in Australia, Canada, Seychelles, Reunion Island, Rodrigues, Mauritius and China. She is highly trained as a beauty pageant contestant who represented Mauritius in 2006 in Miss Intercontinental, prior to Miss World 2007 in Sanya, People's Republic of China. Melody graduated from medical school in China in 2013 and now holds an M.B.B.S Degree (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). Her mother, Dr. Marie-Danielle Selvon holds a PhD in Law and a certificate of academic standing from the Bar Standard Board of England, she is also a member of the Inner Temple in London. Her father, Sydney Selvon is a famous historian in the Indian Ocean, Former Ambassador and Former editor of English and French newspapers in Mauritius, Australia and Canada.
