Melius abundare quam deficere

Melius abundare quam deficere is a Latin expression, which means literally: "it is better too much than not enough". It is still commonly used in the modern lexicon, to mean that it is better to have too much of something, than to run the risk of running short of it.

It is of uncertain origin; it is often used in its elliptical (short) form ("melius abundare") to address the necessity to be cautious about future needs, critics, and so on.
