Melhupra Vero is an Indian politician and the first member of parliament from among the Naga people. Born in the Dimapur city of the Indian state of Nagaland, Vero contested to the Rajya Sabha in 1989 and won the election as an Indian National Congress candidate. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to society. On 1 October 2015, the Government of Nagaland honoured him during the International Day of Older Persons celebrations.
