The Mayo River is located in the Mexican state of Sonora. There is an important dam, the Adolfo Ruiz Cortines Dam. It is named after a president of Mexico. It was built up the river to generate electricity and to irrigate agriculture in the Mayo Valley. It is 30 km east of the city of Navojoa, in the municipality of Álamos.
