Maxwell William "Max" Poulter (1913 – 2 September 1962) was an Australian politician. Born in Devonport, Tasmania, he was educated at Devonport High School and then studied at the University of Tasmania, before becoming a teacher at Tasmanian state schools. He studied for a PhD at Columbia University in New York, winning his doctorate in 1952, after which he became a lecturer in education at the University of Queensland.
