Mawat (Kurdish: Mawet) is a town located to the north of Sulaymaniyah and to the southeast of Lake Dukan in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Mawat is a small town. It has been rebuilt to the south of Old Mawat (Mawata Kon in Kurdish). Mawat locals tell a story of the town being destroyed 300 years ago by the Ottoman Empire. The most common Mawat names are mala mussa tawakally (17-- / 1800) and some of the most important Mawat names are: Faqeh Omer (Feqe Homer in Kurdish), Mulah Bakir (Mela Bakir in Kurdish ) Papazian family (Bnamallay Papazakan ) and Mam Yahia
