Matthew William Joyce is a filmmaker, magazine editor, activist for Women's Rights, Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and Education and was born in Manly, Sydney Australia.
He attended Wauchope High school excelling in athletics, music and drama and co-acted as the lead with Phil Jamieson in the school's 1994 production of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. After High School Joyce attended the Young Actors Studio at the National Institute of Dramatic and then studied the Journey at the Actor's Centre Australia.
In 2000, Joyce appeared as a bounty hunter in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones at Dex's Diner.
In 2007 Joyce first attended the Tokyo International Film Festival and the following year was the first westener to establish a co-production partnership with one of the top three film distributors in Japan but was then retracted after the laws regarding foreign investment changed due to the Global Financial Crisis.
In 2010 Joyce started a free online magazine titled: Machete Girl Magazine which after only two years of operation had over a million downloads. Based on cyberpunk and cyber culture themes.
Joyce has appeared a judge for the Fanatastic Planet and A Night of Horror Films Festivals since 2011.
In 2013, Joyce met Prime Minister Julia Gillard at the Gough Whitlam building and then a second time at Kiribilii house being invited as a photographer in support of Education where they spoke extensively about ecuation. Shortly after Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was re-elected by the Labor Party and the day before the 2013 federal election Joyce did a short interview with the Prime Minister focused around the Gonski Reforms. Joyce started a petition to get Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who appointed himself to be the minister for women, to appoint someone more appropriate gaining over 10,000 signatures.
