Matthew C. Patrick (born April 1, 1952 in New Brunswick, New Jersey) was a Democratic politician who served as member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He represented the 3rd Barnstable District from 2001 to 2011. During his time on Beacon Hill, he was a leading progressive voice in the Massachusetts General Court. He was unopposed for re-election in the 2006 elections, but was defeated by Falmouth Town Moderator David Vieira in the 2010 general election. He ran for the same State Representative seat in 2016, and, though he won the primary election against Bourne Selectman Michael A. Blanton in a landslide, he was narrowly defeated in the general election.
Patrick was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana from 1977 to 1979.
In 2007, Representative Matt Patrick introduced two components to the Green Communities Act. The first raised the value if each kWh of renewable energy from wholesale to retail and the second introduced the concept of virtual net metering that eliminated the need for a direct connection to the renewable energy project. Both facilitated renewable energy projects statewide. The Green Communities Act was signed into law by Governor Deval Patrick in 2008.
