Matthew C. Stephenson is Professor of Law, Harvard Law School where he teaches he administrative law, legislation and regulation, anti-corruption law and the political economy of public law. His research interests include the application of positive political theory to public law.

He has served as a consultant to the World Bank and as Special Rapporteur for the Commission on the Legal Empowerment of the Poor. Prior to joining the Harvard faculty, Professor Stephenson clerked for senior Judge Stephen Williams on the D.C. Circuit and for Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court. He is the co-author of the casebook Legislation and Regulation (Foundation Press, 2010).

He received his J.D. and his Ph.D (political science) from Harvard in 2003 and his B.A. from Harvard in 1997. He has an A.B. from Harvard College (1997), a J.D. from Harvard Law School (2003) and a Ph.D from Harvard University in Political Science (2003). He has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of Chicago (2010).

Stephenson is widely regarded as one of the best teachers at Harvard Law School.
