Purpose

Like the rest of the Higher Education Academy the Maths, Stats & OR discipline area of the Higher Education Academy is there to serve a network of British university departments - in this case those in the field of mathematics, and to coordinate national distribution of knowledge and relevant curriculum.

Each year it holds the CETL-MSOR Conference (Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in MSOR).

Its newsletter is MSOR Connections published each quarter (February, May, August and November). MSOR Connections was first published in February 2000.

History

It began as the Learning and Teaching Support Network Centre for Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research. Predecessor organisations were CTI Mathematics, CTI Statistics and the RSS Centre for Statistical Education. It was established on1 January 2000.

In May 2004 its parent organisation, the Learning and Teaching Support Network, became part of the Higher Education Academy.

At the beginning of 2012 government funding for each of the subject centres came to an end, with funding only continuing for the main HEA centre in York.
