Manikiala was a village of undivided India, but is now part of Pakistan. It contains a large stupa, one of the first known to Europeans, who early detected traces of Greek influence in the sculpture. The stupa was excavated by General Court in 1834, and has been identified by A. Cunningham with the scene of Buddha’s “body-offering.”
