Mancsy is a pseudonymous and anonymous street artist based in Manchester, England. His moniker is a play on the Bristol graffiti artist Banksy's (a 'Manc' is the colloquial name given to a person from Manchester).
Since January 2012, he produces limited edition A3 screen prints on a monthly basis and displays them in public for passers-by to find and keep. Though this predominantly takes place in Manchester, his work has also appeared in London and internationally in Paris, New York and Istanbul.
A bee is included in most of his pieces, which has been used as a symbol of Manchester since the Industrial Revolution, representing Mancunians' work in manufacturing and other industrial activities. Black and yellow are the two main colours used on the prints, though very occasionally other colours are evident.
He uses his social media accounts, predominantly Twitter, to inform his fans when a new piece has been placed around Manchester and people set out to find it.
He gives work to charity and asks if people want to give something back, that they make a donation to The Christie. In September 2014 he opened an online shop which funds his ongoing "free-bees" and charity work.
To date he has held two exhibitions, the latest was at Manchester's Victoria Warehouse in April 2015 to coincide with the unveiling of a 18m square banner featuring his message that Manchester is a hub of creativity: CREATIVITY IS FORGED IN MANCHESTER ON THE ANVIL OF INDUSTRY.
