Malta chose their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 during the Malta Song for Europe 2007. After a semi-final on 1 February and a final on 3 February, the Maltese televoters decided that Olivia Lewis would represent Malta at Eurovision with the song "Vertigo". Olivia won her victory by a landslide, gaining 23330 more votes than the song that came in second place. "Vertigo" has been described as an oriental flamenco pop song. The song was written by Gerard James Borg and composed by Philip Vella.

Olivia Lewis was born on 18 October 1978 and is most notable for her successful music career in Malta and her several attempts at representing the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest. Olivia first tried her luck at the Malta Song For Europe when she was only 14 years old. In 2004, 2005, and 2006, Olivia was the runner up with her songs "Take A Look", "Deja Vu", and "Spare a Moment".

Olivia Lewis took part on the semi-final evening on 10 May in Helsinki, and failed to make it through to the finals.
