Malangi was a dacuit during the colonial occupation of Punjab.He was known as Robinhood in the Kasur area of Punjab where he belongs to.Punjab has the tradition of appreciating the role of those dacuits in the folklore who defied the authorities of the period and sided with people.Malangi was one of such dacuits.Other such well known 'Robin Hoods' of the Punjab,were Nizam Lohar, Imam Din Gohawia and Jagga who were known as folk heroes by people during early part of the 20th century. Songs of the bravery of these dacuits are even sung today.One song sung in Punjab reflect the prominence of Malangi is like this:

Background and Early life

Malangi belonged to a village known as Lakho in district Kasur of present-day Punjab, Pakistan. His father passed away when he was just an infant of 6 months.The land which his father left for Malangi was captured by the feudal lords who dominant the area. Malangi's mother became helpless after the death of her husband and she married a Sikh although she herself belonged to Muslim religion.When he realized that his land had been appropriated by the landlords of his village then became a he fought with landlords to got the land back.The landlords, who were British appointed Lumbardar managed to isolate Malangi in the local community and in anger he became a dacuit.
