Major General Jai Shanker Menon is the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force. Prior to this appointment of 2 February 2016 by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Major General Menon served as the Additional Director General Equipment Management in the Indian Army.

Biographical Information

Major General Menon brings extensive experience to his new position of Force Commander. He has held numerous officer and command positions with the Indian Army. His prior experience with the United Nations includes service as Military Observer with the United Nations Operation in Mozambique (1993) and with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (2007 to 2009). He holds a number of degrees from universities in India including a Master of Management Studies, a Master of Defence Studies and a Bachelor of Arts. In addition, he is a graduate of India’s National Defence Academy, the Army War College, the Defence Services Staff College and the College of Defence Management.
