Mahmoodur Rehman (also Mahmood-ur-Rehman) is a retired IAS officer who was the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University from 1995 to 2000. he has also served as the chairman of Bombay Mercantile Cooperative Bank. While being the VC of AMU, he was appreciated for timely start of academic sessions and reviving the campus mess system but also received notoriety for pulling out a revolver at protesting students and was also call "more a general than a scholar" by India Today.
