Syed-Mahmood Haider, BDS, MSc, FFD RCSI, FDS RCS, FCPS. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England & the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland since 1989. He has been awarded a Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for his contribution in his chosen specialty by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan in 2010. He is an alumnus of University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan and the University of London, United Kingdom.
He has served as Vice-Principal and Head of Dentistry Karachi Medical and Dental College since 2001. Dr Haider is a Professor & Head of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, affiliated hospital of the Karachi Medical & Dental College, University of Karachi.
He was born in Karachi, Pakistan and had his schooling from Public School, Cantonment, Karachi and attended DJ College Karachi for his Higher Secondary Schooling. He received his bachelor's degree from University of Punjab, and later his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency & training at various centers in UK. He pioneered the field of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery in Pakistan. Upgraded the only government dental hospital of Karachi Metropolitan city.
He is the founder of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, which is one of the biggest hospitals in Karachi, Pakistan. He has been working in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery for the last 25 years.
He is a sitting Councillor of the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council, country Councillor of the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and Secretary of the Pakistan Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Founding President of Academy of Continuing Dental Education & research and Director of Maxfac Surgical Ltd.
He has done research work on oral cancer and Oral Sub-mucosal Fibrosis. His work has been published in various national and international journals which include British Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
