Maanbhanjan is the name of the fifth episode of the TV series Stories by Rabindranath Tagore telecast on Epic channel based on a short story written by Rabindranath Tagore. It deals with the marriage of a man who falls out of love with his wife and is enchanted by a stage actress.
Plot summary
Gopinath (Trishaan) is a Zamindar, who got married at a very young age to Giribala (Ranjini Chakraborty). They have a happy childhood and grow up together as friends. But after the death of his father, he grows to be irresponsible and starts spending more time outside the house. Giribala is left at home waiting for her husband to arrive but everyday he visits a theater and is enchanted by an actress Latika (Purva Naresh).
Once Giribala comes to know about her husband's attraction to a Latika and employs her loyal maid Shudhomukhi (Natasha Pillai) to find who she is. Although Shudho comes back and tells Giribala that Latika is negligible, Giribala sets out to find out the next evening. Although upset by her husband's fatal attraction to the actress, Giribala is attracted by the world of the theater. She is now a regular visitor to the theater. One day, she imagines herself as Radha and her husband as Krishna from a play she saw and pleads her husband to stay back for the day. But, eager to meet Latika, he snatches all her ornaments and leave the house, as she rejects to give him the key to the treasury.
Latika has earlier asked Gopinath to sponsor a play for the company and he agrees. As the rehearsal is in progress for their new play, the director of the play is at disappointment with Latika's performance. Gopinath and the director get into a fight and Gopinath offers her to elope with him, leaving the theater. The two elope and start living in a hill station. Through newspaper, Latika finds out that the actress who has replaced her has won many accolades playing the role of Mirabai.
The couple travel to Kolkata and Latika is very eager to see the new actress. Much to Goinath's surprise and fury, it is none other than his wife Giribala.
