MV Methane Princess was the first LNG carrier in service (1964). The ship was built at Vickers shipyard, Barrow-in-Furness, for British Gas. Her sister vessel is Methane Progress.

The containment system was Conch type with a total of nine tanks.

The ship was scrapped in 1998.

The ship's name was reused for a new tanker in 2003.
