Katsunaga fought in the Battle of Sekigahara and at the western legion but was defeated. Later, during the Siege of Osaka, Katsunaga, by tricking a guard, infiltrated Osaka castle. He defeated Honda Tadatomo (an officer for the Tokugawa) there in the summer.
