History

Established in 1966, Lycée Louis Pasteur is currently celebrating 50 years of excellence.

Originally reserved for children of expatriate French nationals, the school’s reputation for quality academic schooling spread and in 1982, the school was open to families from all nationalities and linguistic backgrounds.

In 2000, the school was moved to its current location in the residential neighborhood of Garrison Woods.

Academics

The Lycée provides a comprehensive education in a structured academic environment. The curriculum is based on the French educational system, with additional instruction provided to ensure that the Alberta Education requirements are also met. Most instruction is provided in French; however, depending on the level, between 20% and 40% of classes are taught in English. Spanish is also introduced starting in Grade 6. Additionally, the school embraces a spirit of inclusiveness and is pleased to welcome students in grades 1-5 who have little or no exposure to French. Its visionary French Language Immersive Program allows these students to acquire French language skills and integrate into the regular program at their own pace.

The regular school program is designed to ensure that students will succeed in the key French and Albertan exams, specifically the French National Diploma (Brevet des collèges) and Baccalauréat, and the Alberta Provincial Achievement tests and Diploma Exams. This provides students with internationally recognized certification of their accomplishments for admission into universities around the world.

The Lycée is part of a global network (AEFE) of 495 schools in 137 countries. All AEFE schools teach from the same French curriculum, allowing students to move easily between schools around the world. The Lycée is the only school in Calgary to be a member of this prestigious network.

The Lycée Board of Directors didn't sign a new convention with the AEFE and beginning September 2018, the Lycée will be partner with the AEFE.

The Lycée is accredited by both Alberta Education and the French Ministry of National Education
