Lux Institute was founded in 1941 in Leon, Mexico, and is a work of the Society of Jesus. It educates from preschool through high school. It is named after the patroness of Leon, Mary, the Virgin of Light. Vincente Fox, president of Mexico from 200 to 2006, was an active promoter of Lux Institute.

Activities

A student government association (SAIL) is elected by the students of higher grades third through fifth, to keep open channels of communication between the students, faculty, and administration. There is also a Parents Association elected for the same purpose.

Athletic facilities include a junior olympic pool, 25x15 meters, as well as a pool used for infants ages 6 months to 4 years and for aquatic therapy. In 2015 Lux Institute sponsored the Interjesuit Games among the Jesuit primary schools in Mexico, and later that same school year in 2016 among the Jesuit high schools.

A retreat house sponsors workshops, retreats, and other events, with 32 double rooms and 2 singles, all with bath, along with a multipurpose room for 100 and five breakout rooms. The dining room also accommodates 100. Training sessions are offered for parents, as those primarily responsible for the education and upbringing of their children.

Students are engaged in service projects in the surrounding community. And in the interest of ecology, staff and students are involved in maintaining Lux Green, a lesson in sustainable development.
