Luperus longicornis

Luperus longicornis is a species of skeletonizing leaf beetle belonging to the family Chrysomelidae, subfamily Galerucinae.

It is found in the whole Palearctic ecozone and in the Near East.

These beetles are 4–5 mm long. The body is completely bright black, while the legs are yellowish. The antennae are very long in males, shorter in the female.

The larvae feed on grass roots and pass winter in the larval stage, as development is completed in the spring. Adults mainly feed on leaves of willows and birch (Salix species), but also on Rosaceae species and on foliage of several trees (Populus tremula, Quercus robur, etc.).
