Lowhill Township is a township in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is a suburb of Allentown, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley region of the state.

The population of Lowhill Township was 1,869 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 14.0 square miles (36.2 km²), all of it land. It is drained by the Jordan Creek into the Lehigh River. Its villages include Claussville, Leather Corner Post, Lowhill, Lyon Valley, and Weidasville.

    As of the census of 2000, there were 1,869 people, 677 households, and 563 families residing in the township. The population density was 133.6 people per square mile (51.6/km²). There were 703 housing units at an average density of 50.2/sq mi (19.4/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.70% White, 0.32% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.32% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.02% of the population.

    There were 677 households, out of which 37.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.7% were married couples living together, 5.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.8% were non-families. 13.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.04.

    In the township the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 28.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.7 males.

    The median income for a household in the township was $63,421, and the median income for a family was $67,188. Males had a median income of $46,563 versus $38,083 for females. The per capita income for the township was $28,317. About 2.3% of families and 3.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.4% of those under age 18 and 6.5% of those age 65 or over.
