Background and release
Stefani's debut album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby., was released on October 27, 2004, and spawned six singles—"What You Waiting For?", "Rich Girl", "Hollaback Girl", "Cool", "Luxurious" and "Crash". The remixed version of "Luxurious" that appears on Love. Angel. Music. Baby. (The Remixes) was released as a single on October 1, 2005, and was moderately successful, peaking at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, and within the top 10 of the record charts in Canada and Finland. Additionally, the Richard X remix of "Cool" from the aforementioned album reached the top position of the Dance Club Songs component chart for the week ending November 12, 2005. "Hollaback Girl" and "What You Waiting For?" were the final two tracks completed for the EP; Stuart Price, under the name Jacques Lu Cont, remixed the former, while her No Doubt bandmate Tony Kanal remixed the latter. Kanal's remix was titled the "Dancehollaback Remix" and features the vocal collaboration from reggae artist Elán; this version was later included on the 2005 remix EP for "Hollaback Girl".
The album was made available for digital download in the United States on November 22, 2005 through Interscope Records. The EP's sound was inspired by dance and electropop music, similar to its original counterpart. Synthesizers and keyboards were heavily used on the tracks.
