Louis de La Vergne-Montenard de Tressan or Louis III de La Vergne de Tressan (000000001670-01-01-00001670 - 000000001733-04-18-0000April 18, 1733) was a French cleric of the Roman Catholic Church, Archbishop of Rouen (France) from 000000001723-10-17-0000October 17, 1723 to 000000001733-04-18-0000April 18, 1733.

Biography

He was born in Tressan (France) in 000000001670-01-01-00001670. He was the second son of Jeremie de Tressan, from a very old Languedoc family.

His father, Marechal de camp of Louis XIV, married Marguerite de Beon (House of Beon-Luxembourg) on 000000001667-03-01-0000March 1, 1667. His brother was Francois de La Vergne, Marquess of Tressan.

Louis de La Vergne de Tressan received a licence in theology from the University of Paris.

He was Count of Lyon and Canon of the Saint John the Baptist Lyon Cathedral, then First Almoner of Philippe I, Duke of Orleans.

He was selected Bishop of Nantes (France) on 000000001717-10-02-0000October 2, 1717, confirmed on 000000001718-06-18-0000June 18, 1718 and ordained on 000000001718-07-10-0000July 10, 1718. He stayed in Nantes from 000000001717-10-02-0000October 2, 1717 to 000000001724-02-14-0000February 14, 1724.

He was selected Metropolitan Archbishop of Rouen on 000000001723-10-17-0000October 17, 1723 and confirmed on 000000001724-02-14-0000February 14, 1724.

He died on 000000001733-04-18-0000April 18, 1733 in Rouen and was replaced by Nicolas de Saulx de Tavannes (it), bishop of Chalons-en-Champagne.

His appointed surgeon in Rouen was Claude-Nicolas Le Cat.
