Williams is one of Australia's largest thoroughbred racehorse owners and owns a 120 hectares (300 acres) stable outside Melbourne. With his wife, Suzie, Williams has won Australia's most prestigious race, the Melbourne Cup, on a record five occasions; in 1981 with Just A Dash; in 1985 with What A Nuisance; in 2007 with Efficient;, in 2012 with Green Moon; and in 2016 with Almandin. In 2000, he and Kerry Packer bought Enzeli from Aga Khan for about 200,000 pounds to race in the Cup.
