A litigon is a rare second generation hybrid from a female tigon (a hybrid between a male tiger and a female lion) and a male lion, specifically an Asiatic lion.

History

The Alipore Zoo in Calcutta, India, witnessed a notable breeding achievement with the birth of a female cub, marking a successful endeavor in hybrid animal reproduction. In this instance, a female tigon by the name of Rudrani, born in 1971 at the same zoo, was successfully bred with an Asiatic Lion named Debabrata. This union resulted in the creation of a second-generation hybrid known as a litigon. Rudrani went on to give birth to seven litigons. Among them, a litigon named Cubanacan, who passed away in 1991, reached remarkable dimensions, weighing at least 362 kilograms (800 pounds), standing 1.32 meters (4.3 feet) tall at the shoulder, and measuring 3.5 meters (11 feet) in total length.
