Lit for Life is an annual literary festival organised by the English daily The Hindu in Chennai, India. The festival was inaugurated in 2011 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of The Hindu’s Literary Review. The first edition of the festival was held in 2011 in Chennai and was attended by poets Arvind Krishna Mehrotra and Jeet Thayil, authors Jerry Pinto, Nilanjana Roy, Devdutt Pattanaik, Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Ashok Ferrey and fashion designer and author Wendell Rodricks. The fourth edition of the event was held in Chennai during 12 − 14 January 2014. The name of the recipient of the Hindu Literary Prize for the year 2013, Anees Salim, was announced by novelist Jim Grace during the valedictory function of the festival.The 7th edition of the festival was held from January 14-16, 2017. Attendance had notably spiked with the increasing popularity of the festival as a representative voice for a literary festival in Chennai.
