This is a list of deemed universities in India established under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956.
Note
In many cases, the same listing by the UGC covers several institutes. For example, the listing for Homi Bhabha National Institute covers the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research and other institutes. The list above includes only the major institute granted the status, and such additional institutes are not listed separately. The date of establishment listed is the date reported by the institute. The date in parenthesis is the date in which the institute was granted deemed university status.
• HIHT University, Swami Ram Nagar, Jolly Grant, P.O. Doiwala, Dehradun, Uttrakhand. (Deemed to be university) was removed from the list of Universities on 21.07.2015 in view of the notification issued by the Government of India, MHRD vide No. F. 9-43/2006-U.3.A dated 27.05.2015.
• School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi (declared as Deemed to be University vide notification No. F.- 17-7/78-T.1 dated 27.12.1979) was removed from the list of Institutions Deemed to be Universities on 15.09.2015 as this Institution was declared as Institution of National Importance by the Government of India by Act of Parliament No. 37 of 2014 dated 18.12.2014 and Notification of Ministry of Human Resource Development (Government of India) No. S.O. 212(E) dated 22.01.2015.
• Bihar Yoga Bharati (Deemed to be University), Munger, Bihar – The name of the Institute has been removed from the UGC list of Institutions Deemed to be University in view of MHRD notification No. F. 12-12/2010-U.3(A) dated 16.09.2015.
• Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Choglamsar, Leh (Ladakh), Jammu & Kashmir was declared as Institution Deemed to be University vide Government of India, Ministry of HRD Notification No. F. 9-5/2001-U3(A) dated 15.01.2016 and was included in the UGC list on 05.02.2016.
• Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (Deemed to be University), Gola Ka Mandir, Gwalior – 474 005, M.P.– The name of the Institute has been removed from the UGC list of Institutions Deemed to be University in view of the declaration of this Institute as Institution of National Importance by an Act of the Parliament (No. 30/2014 – Notification dated 08.12.2014). The name was removed on 10.02.2016.
• Indian Institute of Information Technology (Deemed to be University), Devghat, Jhalwa, Allahabad – 211 012, Uttar Pradesh. The name of the Institute has been removed from the UGC list of Institutions Deemed to be University in view of the declaration of this Institute as Institution of National Importance by an Act of the Parliament (No. 30/2014 – Notification dated 08.12.2014). The name was removed on 10.02.2016.
