The High Commissioner of Australia to New Zealand is an officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the head of the High Commission of the Commonwealth of Australia to New Zealand in Wellington. The High Commissioner has the rank and status of an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and is currently Michael Potts, who also holds non-resident accreditation to the Realm of New Zealand, including the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau. The posting is one of Australia's oldest, with the first High Commissioner appointed in 1943.
