Lightwood House is an 18th-century plantation house in rural Surry County, Virginia. Built in several sections, beginning in 1760, it exhibits many fine period details, and is an important example of a mid-sized frame tobacco plantation house of the second half of the 18th century. It has been restored to a fine condition, and is surrounded by seventy acres of forest and fields. It has a particularly fine vernacular staircase which descends into a formal Federal style parlor, and a grained and marbelized classical entrance hall. The earlier kitchen wing, now a dining room, is reminiscent of older English examples of the 17th century.
