Barangay Libertad (PSGC: 175909014) is one of the barangays in Odiongan, Romblon. It used to be a barrio. Its status evolved into a barangay by virtue of the Presidential Decree 557, which changed it from a barrio to a barangay in 1974.
Contents
The former barrio included the political jurisdiction of the present Barangay of Tuburan. The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Romblon through Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance No. 4-58 as authorized by Resolution No. 85-83, created Tuburan and effective 60 days after the plebiscite was called on June 15, 1985. The barrio commenced its corporate existence after its new set of officers was elected. It was considered the biggest political unit of the municipality of Odiongan in terms of area and population before its subdivision.
Location
It is located at the central western portion of Tablas Island. It is bounded on the north by Barangay Panique; on the east by the municipality of San Agustin; on the south by Barangay Tumingad, and on the west by Tablas Straight. It has a total land area of 1073.7425 hectares.
Canlabha
Canlabha is a sitio with a small valley of rice field and coconut plantation along the coast in the northeastern portion of the Barangay proper. It is derived its name from the word "baha" which means flood brought by the overflowing creek from the hills east of the valley to the sea.
Clabasag
Clabasag is the biggest sitio of the wide valley in the southern portion of the Barangay. It derived its name from the word "basag" which means broken sound brought about by the rushing floodwater of the Libertad River or the big waves that rush to the shore during the southwest monsoon months.
Labawan
Labawan is another sitio which derived its name from the word "labaw" which means taller than the others. It comprises the high hills overlooking the Barangay proper at its promontory.
Palati
Palati is the most interior part of the Barangay. Its name means second growth forest.
Demography
According to 2010 Census it has a population of 2,335 inhabitants.
