Lexington City Golf Championship was created in 1927, played in Lexington, KY. In the summer of 1927, golfers played Tate's Creek and Lakeside. The tournament has expanded over the years and have been played every year since 1927, with the exceptions of 1928, 1930, and 1931.

The inaugural winner in 1927 was John Shouse, his first and only title. The most titles and an amazing stretch of wins goes to John C. Owens who won ten (10) championships from 1944 to 1961. No other golfer in tournament history has won more than four (4)times.
