"Let's Get It Started" is a song by American group The Black Eyed Peas, released as a single on June 22, 2004. The track was the fourth single released from the band's 2003 album Elephunk and originally appeared on the album under the title "Let's Get Retarded". This version was included as a bonus track on the 2004 re-issue of the album.

The album version was originally only re-worked for its use in promotion for the 2004 NBA Playoffs on ABC in April 2004, however the new version was so well-received that it was later given an official single release two months later. The song was later included on the soundtrack for the 2006 romantic comedy It's a Boy Girl Thing, the 2004 comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and the 2010 comedy Hot Tub Time Machine. The song is featured during the opening credits of the 2004 motion picture Barbershop 2: Back in Business (although it is not included in the film's soundtrack album). It was featured in the film White Chicks. It was used in UK advertisements for the game The Urbz: Sims in the City. The song was remixed for The Black Eyed Peas' fifth studio album The E.N.D as "Let's Get Re-Started", it was also featured on their remix album The E.N.D. Summer 2010 Canadian Invasion Tour: Remix Collection The chorus was performed by "Weird Al" Yankovic in his polka medley "Polkarama" from his 2006 album Straight Outta Lynwood.

"Let's Get It Started" won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2005 Grammy Awards, and was also nominated for Record of the Year and Best Rap Song.

Music video

The music video takes place in a nighttime setting in an urban area. It features The Black Eyed Peas, particularly will.i.am, performing energetic dances while singing the song, while varying objects in the background (including a grand piano) smash against the ground in real-time, slow and fast motion, and in reverse. The choruses feature the band on stage singing to a large crowd.

Chart performance

"Let's Get It Started" was the first song to sell 500,000 downloads in the United States meaning that it was once the best-selling digital song of all time. "Let's Get It Started" has sold 3,058,195 copies as of October 2012.

The video went to #34 on "MuchMusic's 50 Most Controversial Videos" for its original song title.
