Lea Tuti Livsits

Lea-Tuti Livsits (born Sturm) (September 22, 1930 – November 23, 1999) was an Estonian artist.

She was born at the Pagari farm in Kaarepere commune and is buried in Tartu). Since 1951, Lea-Tuti Livsits lived in Kivioli and graduated from the local high school. Worked in the Kivioli Chemical Plant as a lab assistant and later as an artist until 1974 when she moved to Kohtla-Jarve and started working as an artist in the Kohtla-Jarve Oil Shale Science Institute.

Lea-Tuti Livsits completed the distance learning courses at the Tartu Art Museum and became known in Eastern-Virumaa mainly through her watercolor paintings. Her favorite themes were flowers and the landscape and her favorite genre was watercolor with all its forms of expression. Founded an original graphic direction called stochatype. Research has shown that the stochatype is a type of fractal art.

Lea-Tuti Livsits held over 20 personal exhibitions in Kivioli, Kohtla-Jarve, Tallinn and Tartu. She also participated in several Eastern-Virumaa artist joint exhibitions both in Estonia and abroad. Her art has been influenced by the works of her father, Hugo Sturm, whose naive paintings and woodcuts stood at a prominent location in her home studio. A memorial plaque was unveiled in 2005 at Lea-Tuti Livsits’ last domicile.
