Chalbi Drive Riparian Construction Controversy
The Chalbi Drive Riparian Construction Controversy 2009 refers to an ongoing controversy/dispute between the residents of Chalbi Drive, Lavington, and Dyke Holdings Limited that was in August 2010 given the go ahead to construct townhouses on what the Green Belt Movement and KARA term to be a riparian reserve. The project was stopped by the Minister of Lands James Orengo in 2009. National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has however given Dyke Holdings the go ahead to construct the townhomes. The minister stated that the wetland would be gazetted to protect it.
