Laura Cox is a Republican politician from Michigan currently representing the 19th District in the Michigan House of Representatives after being elected in November 2014.

Personal life

Cox and her husband, former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, live in Livonia and have four children—Lindsey, Sinéad, Conor and Rory—and two grandchildren—Grace and Savanna. Cox has volunteered at the Livonia YMCA, St. Edith School and Parish, Ladywood High School and Detroit Catholic Central High School. She has also served as an advisor for the Michigan State University chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha.

Education

Cox received a degree in criminal justice and a master’s in criminal justice research and planning from Michigan State University.

Public service career

Cox began her public service career working as a United States Customs Service special agent for 13 years. Cox worked undercover, conducted surveillance and executed search warrants to stop drug traffickers and money launderers.

In 2004, Laura Cox was first elected to the Wayne County Commission, where she served until 2014 and chaired the Ways and Means Committee. Cox also served as the 11th Congressional District chairperson, treasurer to the Wayne 11th Congressional District Republican Committee, and on the Michigan Republican State Committee as a member of the Policy Committee, Women for Bush 2008 Co-Chair and as a delegate at-large to the 2012 Republican National Convention.
