History

The band has based its name around Australian political events as they were originally known as, “Julia Gillard,” around 2011 however this was changed to Latham’s Grip because of an image showing former leader of the opposition Mark Latham shaking hands with former Australian Prime Minister John Howard.
Latham’s Grip originally had 5 members, however this was later changed after the original lead singer had to leave Latham’s Grip. Around late 2011, the band had four members, leaving an opening spot for a lead singer, Jesse Hepplewhite took on this role in late 2011 and is still lead singer in 2014.
Latham’s Grip released their first EP called, “Jesusaurus Rex” in August 2012. This was shortly followed with their first gig starting at Bateman’s Bay on July 7, 2012. After this, Latham’s Grip visited a number of venues within New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. This saw Jesse Hepplewhite as the lead singer for the first time after the previous singer had left due to personal reasons.
By late 2012, the band’s local following had grown, as they had toured Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong. During this tour they shared stages with Fait Accompli, Kaleidoscope, Lint, Break a Leg and Spindrift Saga.
“Hey Señorita,” was the band’s second task, as they began work on their second EP in early 2013 right after their tour had finished. During this year, Latham’s Grip was playing support for British India, Sticky Fingers and Born Lion.
After completing all recording work on their second record at the end of 2013, the band embarked the New Year of 2014 with some shows around Sydney, before again touring around New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, supporting the release for their two new songs, “Don’t Call Me Daht” and “I Wanna Go”. On the 26th of May 2014, Latham’s Grip had released their second Extended Play, “Hey Señorita.” They also dropped a video clip for their song “Don’t Call Me Daht” in late May. Currently, Latham’s Grip are still trying to further their name within the Australian scene, doing occasional shows around the coast of New South Wales within 2014.
