Laser Jesus (1988–1994) is a rock and performance band founded by Per Simonsson (vocals & bass), Per-Olof Mazetti (drums) and Hasse Pihl (saxophone). Some months after the start Mårten Hultgren (horns & guitar) and Fredrik Ottedag (guitar) joined. Their debut came later the same year with a music-cassette containing the tracks Diesel Death, Cannibal Ball och King Overhead. With their mix of avantgarde rock, punk, traditional jazz and performance acts their unorthodox approach made them notorious in the Swedish underground scene in the late -80s. Laser Jesus toured extensively in Sweden the years 1988-1990 and performed in clubs and on festivals (Hultsfredsfestivalen 1989), radio and TV and international on Arnhem Internationaal Audio Visual Experimenteel Festival (AVE), Netherlands. Their breakthrough came 1989 with the compilation Bommen Bandstand Vol 1 and later the same year got signed by City Records in Stockholm and the album In HI-FI. The band broke up 1990 after a long tour period and resurrected in 1994 to record parts of the album Religion. Laser Jesus broke up for good 1994.
Per Simonsson, P-O Mazetti and Hasse Pihl played together in the band Luna Vermont and Fredrik Ottedag in NBB - Niebelungen Blues Band.
