He is Research Professor Emeritus at the Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies and Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at the University of Oslo. Weisæth is an expert on psychotherapy, psychotraumatology and military psychiatry, and one of Norway's leading experts on crisis psychiatry. His major research projects include survivors of large accidents and natural disasters, and the mental health of military veterans. He often acts as an independent expert in court cases.
