Lant Phibex II 53, an extensive amphibious training exercise in the Caribbean area involving 150 ships and aircraft. Units of the Second Marine Division participated. Particular stress is being placed on amphibious tactics. Marine ground and air units co-operated with supporting naval forces during the maneuvers. The practice amphibious assaults are conducted off Vieques Island, Puerto Rico and at Onslow beach in North Carolina. Pfc Curtis Sandefur from Camp Lejeune, N. C. was present during the training.
