History

The former land register building and the prestigious Lloyd Building on the Oostelijke Handelskade in Amsterdam keep the memory off the Royal Dutch Lloyd alive by their name and details in interior and exterior. Opened in 1920, the building served the first years as headquarters of the Royal Dutch Lloyd shipping company. The latest decennia the communal land register was situated in the building, until it moved to a different location. After this period the building mostly lent itself as office space.

Plans

There are plans are to convert the former land register building with historical values to a 4* art’otel. The hotel will have approximately 100 guest rooms and in the basement public areas will be created for cultural and social activities. The coming of a hotel in this building was under discussion for a long time. Urban district Amsterdam Center was of opinion that there are enough hotels in the area and there is no need for new accommodations. However because no other candidate stepped forward and vacancy is not an option, the hotel can be realized.
