Lamplighters Theatre Company is an American semi-professional community theatre company in Smyrna, Tennessee. Established in 1998 as a ministry of Smyrna Assembly of God, their purpose is to "utilize the dramatic arts to advance the kingdom of God on the earth." They attempt to accomplish this by:
Producing theatrical events that promote biblical values in general and the message of the gospel in particular,
Providing a working model for a theatrical company operating under the covering of a local church.
Promoting professional quality in church-based productions.
Preparing believers to enter the secular performing arts while maintaining the integrity of their faith.
Lamplighters Theatre currently does four major productions a year. In addition to a full season of major productions they intend to present workshop productions of shorter works in a blackbox setting called Lab Rats Theatre.
Plans include:
Becoming a full-time semi-professional rep company operating within the framework of Smyrna Assembly of God.
Institution of an annual SALT Drama Festival where new works are presented and prizes are awarded for new dramatic material written from a Christian world view.
Creation of a school of the arts to prepare believers for careers in the secular performing arts and to lead in the production of the arts within the local church.
