Lalor Park is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Lalor Park is located 35 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Blacktown. Lalor Park is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. Lalor Park is commonly abbreviated as 'L.P'. Its more notable residents include Brett Carroll, who appeared on the long-running television series Home and Away as Marilyn's supposed younger brother, Stanley Clifton.

History

Lalor Park takes its name from the Lalor family, who owned property in the area. Two members of the family (George and Robert) were Councillors on (then) Blacktown Shire Council, George serving as Shire President on two occasions, 1921-1923 and 1928.

Originally farmland the area was originally known as Seven Hills West and began being developed by the housing commission in 1959 when it became known as Lalor Park.

Commercial areas

Although the suburb is primarily residential there is a significant retail shopping precinct with about thirty shops including a newsagents, pharmacy and a small supermarket located at the junction of Northcott Road and Freeman Street.

Education

Lalor Park is the location of a number of educational institutions including:

  • Lalor Park Preschool - A community based preschool
  • Lalor Park Public School - K-6 public primary school founded in 1959
  • St Bernadette's Primary - systemic Catholic K-6 Primary School founded 1960 by the Sisters of St Joseph
  • Sport

    Lalor Park Kookaburras Rugby League Club was established in 1959. They compete in the Parramatta Junior Rugby League. The club's colours are blue, brown and white. Home ground for the Kookaburras is Cavanagh Reserve, Venn Ave Lalor Park. Danilo Sidari played his first 10 years here being labelled as the next thing . Danilo also became the Australian Schoolboys Captain by the age of 15 before being picked up by Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. Shane Miller played his junior football here before going on to play with the Parramatta Eels Rugby League Football Club in the N.R.L. Danilo Sidari played winger in the 1986 N.R.L. grand final winning team alongside the likes of Shane Miller, Billy Butler (rugby), and Mick Cronin (rugby league).

    Transport

    The suburb is served by the Blacktown-Parklea branch of the North-West T-way.
