Development

The title of the album was taken from the newspaper of the same name written during the French Revolution. Kinsella states in a press release that he opted to go into the studio and record songs in a more official setting, as opposed to his normal method of recording at home. This helped him in developing the songs more organically and allowed him more opportunity to incorporate a variety of influences. "In the past I've stifled a bunch of my influences and leaned on a couple consistently, but this time I just let each song happen as I heard them and had a lot of fun trying some new things," he says regarding the new process.
