History

The Kuehne Logistics University evolved in September 2010 from Kühne School of Logistics and Management, the graduate business school for logistics management at the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH). The Kühne School was founded in 2003 as a public–private partnership by the Technical University of Hamburg and the Kühne Foundation as Hamburg School of Logistics, but was later renamed in honor of Klaus-Michael Kühne, a German entrepreneur who donated 3 million euro for the school's foundation, followed by an additional donation of 30 million euro in 2007. In conjunction with the opening ceremony of the new campus, Klaus-Michael Kühne donated an additional 40 million euro to the KLU.

Kühne School offered a full-time and a part-time in-service M.B.A. program with a logistics management specialization, and two master’s programs, one in Logistics, Infrastructure, and Mobility and the other in International Industrial Engineering.

    Rankings

    Handelsblatt

The 2014 Handelsblatt Ranking for Business Schools places Kühne Logistics University (KLU) in Hamburg at the very top. KLU ranks no. 3 in research output per professor among all universities in Germany and has the highest research output of all private business schools in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

    CHE University Ranking 2014

KLU achieved a top rating in the five most important criteria CHE Center for Higher Education examined in its current master’s student rankings for business administration. KLU students who responded to the survey gave the overall learning environment, academic program, supervision, and international orientation the top rating of very good. They gave the same rating to the degree program’s relevance to academics and practice, the library, and the building and facilities.

    U-Multirank 2014

KLU ranks top in timely program completion and international degree orientation. International students are clearly in the majority at KLU, which is our trademark as an internationally oriented scientific university. A semester abroad at one of the partner universities in Europe, Asia, Africa or the Americas plus internships at renowned, global companies are standard components of the KLU program.

    Handelsblatt Ranking 2012

KLU is ranked among the top universities within a field of over 120 institutions. This ranking has been achieved even though the newly founded university has only a fraction of the professors of other well-established universities. When the research performance per professor is taken as a yardstick, a truer picture of the research strength of KLU is presented: KLU is in seventh place – on a par with long-established faculties such as those at the universities of Mannheim, Munich, and Cologne.

    Erasmus

In July 2012 KLU has been awarded the ERASMUS University Charter.
