Kunnu aya, or tiger nut milk or often just kunnu, is a traditional beverage in Nigeria. Nigerian variants include the addition of spices and a natural sweetener like jaggery or honey. The use of the term kunnu is sometimes extended to other types of milk, such as milky drinks made with millet or sorghum. Kunnu aya is also cooked in the form of pudding, which is then combined with a wide variety of fruits or other nuts. Nigerian scientists at the University of Ilorin have determined that kunnu made from tiger nut (Cyperus esculentus) is a comparatively inexpensive source of protein.
