Arrest

Karumba was arrested in Kapenguria for assisting a proscribed society of Mau Mau, which led a revolt against British colonial rule. He was convicted and locked up in jail for nearly a decade before the country's independence on December 12, 1963.

Legacy

In Kenya, Karumba is considered a national hero. In 1974 he mysteriously disappeared after a business trip to Idi Amin in Uganda. Popular musician at the time, Daniel Kamau, wrote a song 'Where Did Kung'u Karumba Disappear To?'
